I took a family break today to focus on my son’s 10th birthday. Memorable in a way he never dreamed it would be …. He had excitedly planned a party where he and his friends would get drivers’ licenses and practice driving electric cars around a track reminiscent of my childhood experiences at Safetyville in Flint, Michigan. Instead, he spent his day in and around the house, socially distanced from classmates, friends and neighbors. My amazing, sensitive, brilliant, creative, and thoughtful son made the best of it – gracious with every gift from each family member and doing his best to enjoy a first “Hangout” with his grandmother, uncles, aunts, and cousins full of technical glitches; and helping his brother and sister with distance learning lessons. But I also know the day was sad for him in ways that a child’s birthday should not be. Here’s hoping we will be in a better place after we (hopefully) pull through this pandemic in his next turn around the sun.❤️🎂🌎☮️
Tomorrow is Friday. I’m looking forward to a couple weekend days when I can take a break from the pressure of managing the kids’ distance learning activities and stresses. In my spare time (LOL), I hope to figure out some basic functionalities on the site (e.g., allow those who are interested to subscribe and comment, how to create mosaic posts with multiple links with pictures, etc.) and more importantly to finish the dozen or so draft posts and page ideas with musings, links, resources in various states of readiness. Stay tuned.
